Southwest Central Indiana is rich with industry resources. The region offers unique specialization in the areas of life sciences, national security & defense, and advanced manufacturing. Each of these industry sectors offers jobs that are focused on Science, Technology, Mathematics, and Engineering (STEM) as well as supporting jobs that help to make those businesses run smoothly.
Regional Opportunity Initiative’s (ROI) recent Occupational Needs Assessment emphasizes the importance of defined student skill pathways to meet the workforce needs of our region, to support growth in our key sectors, and to attract talent to Southwest Central Indiana.
To bring awareness about the many careers available in our region, ROI is creating a network of speakers that will be available to visit the schools in Southwest Central Indiana. A typical presentation will last 20-30 minutes with additional time for questions. Speakers can share interesting points about their company, job responsibilities, personal connections regarding their unique career path, and the skills and education students need to pursue that line of work. Speakers are also encouraged to bring props and/or visuals that illustrate specific job functions or products.
ROI will maintain a list of interested schools, school contacts, and interested speakers. ROI will contact schools that have expressed interest to discuss topics that will meet the school’s specialized needs. Once a speaker has been identified to fill those needs, ROI will connect the school with the speaker to make arrangements. ROI will interview the speaker and help with the background check process.
